A British Design Classic

Radiator covers are a distinctly British piece of furniture which you rarely see in the rest of the world. One of the first products Jali created, they remain our biggest sellers today.

Many people are unsure about radiator covers at first thought. However, once they look at our designs, they soon change their minds. We are not surprised. Our covers combine exceptional design with great detailing, making them far superior to standard off-the-shelf alternatives.

Styles for Every Interior

Our extensive range of styles allows radiator covers suitable for any house. From elegant Gothic designs to clean geometric patterns, our fretwork and detailing complement both traditional period interiors and modern contemporary homes.

As a result, radiator covers do much more than hide a practical necessity. They add character and style to any room.

The Appeal of the Radiator Cabinet

The popularity of the radiator cabinet can never be underestimated. In fact, its appeal once attracted the attention of a Surrey MP, who attempted to claim almost £1,000 for a “pewter finish” radiator cover.

The Birth of the Modern Radiator

The first radiator appeared to have been created in 1855 in St Petersburg. Franz San-Galli, an inventor of ethnic German heritage and Italian origin, developed the design.

He called his invention the “hot box” and patented it in both Germany and the US. People later forgot all about its Russian origins.

A Monument to a Revolutionary Invention

In 2005, the city of Samara  (near Moscow), celebrated this world-changing invention by unveiling a dedicated monument at a power plant.

The ceremony took place at the start of the cold season which was when the city switched on its central heating system.

A Symbol of Warmth and Comfort

The monument shows a cat relaxing on a windowsill above an ornate iron radiator. It encapsulates the simple comfort and warmth that radiators bring to everyday life.

Following a competition, artist Nikolay Kuklev based the sculpture on the winning photograph of a cat enjoying the heat from a radiator.

According to Kuklev, the design created “an impression of cosiness and comfort” — a fitting tribute to an invention that transformed homes around the world.

Transforming the Modern Radiator

We are not sure how many cats have curled up on top of Jali radiator cabinets, but we do know that our covers can transform even the most unattractive radiators.

San-Galli’s original radiator design may have changed the world, but many modern ones focus only on function. They rarely consider appearance, and it shows.

Bringing Style Back to Heating

Of course, some radiators look really beautiful. Well-designed models can add interest to a room, and traditional ornate iron radiators often create a wonderful focal point.

However, most radiators still serve a practical purpose rather than a decorative one. They provide warmth, but they do not always enhance the room they sit in.

A Jali radiator cabinet solves this problem. It hides unattractive radiators, helps to improve heating efficiency and creates a cleaner, more stylish look.

A British Design Loved Abroad

Radiator covers may be a very British idea, but their appeal reaches far beyond the UK. We regularly receive requests from across Europe because customers struggle to find similar designs locally.

Our covers work with every interior style and bring elegance, detail and a sense of balance to both traditional and modern homes.

A Perfect Partnership

A Jali radiator cover celebrates a very British piece of furniture. It also complements an invention with fascinating international origins.
