One of the Brilliant Things

One of the brilliant things about Jali is the way we can help you create unique furniture for your particular space, however awkward or uninspiring it may be. The combined Jali cupboard and radiator cabinet below was designed by our customer Lisa H. a while ago but for some reason hadn’t made it onto our blog. Well, it has now!

Lisa’s Clever Jali Design

When Lisa contacted us, she told us how happy she was with her unit. It fitted perfectly, and she said, “everyone comments on what a great piece of furniture it is”.

We were pleased to see how cleverly she had used the Jali online designer tool to create her design. Lisa also thanked us “for the great service you gave us”, which was great to hear.

A Collaborative Approach to Furniture Design

In Lisa’s case, she already had a clear vision. However, a few adjustments behind the scenes ensured both pieces worked together seamlessly.

So, how did we create the finished article?

Customising Two Jali Products

Lisa customised her two separate Jali pieces:

  • A cupboard with plinth
  • A radiator cabinet

It was important that both products matched in depth and height and the final measurements were:

  • Depth: 255mm
  • Height: 1000mm

Creating a Perfect Fit

The cupboard included an 18mm inset on the left hand side. This allowed it to fit neatly into the alcove.

On the right side, the inset was removed. This created the smallest possible gap between the cupboard and the radiator cabinet.

We used the opposite approach for the radiator cover. It had no inset on the left side, allowing it to sit snugly against the cupboard. An 18mm inset was then added on the right so it fitted perfectly against the other side of the alcove wall.

Bringing the Two Units Together

Lisa submitted her designs through our website. She then designed a single Top to create a continuous 30mm topboard and one continuous plinth/skirting across both units.

As a result, the two pieces became one streamlined design. The shared top and plinth gave the furniture a sleek finish while securely joining both units together.

To achieve this effect, remember that you must opt for the same style for both the top and plinth.
