The customer wanted to make the best possible use of the space available and create some storage space in their living room. The design of the room meant they had to accommodate the picture rail and plate rack running around the alcove. They particularly wanted to achieve a symmetrical balanced look as well as match the door panel detail elsewhere in the room.
The Jali designer was used to design a unit to fit the full width of the wall. The shelves and cupboards were designed as three sections. A wall-to-wall fitted finish was achieved using the side-fitting option on both the left and right hand sides. The height of the unit was designed to go just under the plate shelf. The 'side fitting' option was used to allow scribing around the picture rail. The customer sourced a small moulding from a local DIY store to match other details in the room. This was cut, mitred and fitted around the door panel. The right-hand side of the cupboard was also scribed, this time around the existing skirting and to the wall.
"We wanted to change our living room wall into a feature wall for all of our books and special things. We also wanted storage where things would not be seen on display."
